Tips from the team

Nick's tip of the week

Pre-season equipment check

Now is the perfect time to check your golf gear or even time to upgrade your equipment.

I would suggest going through the whole bag and checking the following:

1) Grips - make sure they are not shiny or worn
2) Lies - this will dramatically change your ball flight so worth checking
3) Loft - this is equally important as I found out once that my 8 iron was the same loft as my pitching wedge!
4) Grooves - it is always worth a check to make sure they are clean. Secondly if your grooves are worn then you will lose loads of spin and distance which will ultimately affect your ability to score.
5) Shoes - check your spikes for wear. Also check inside the shoe for any wear or damage around the heel as wear in this area will cause some rubbing and lead to blisters.

If you have any questions on the above please click here to get in touch.

Sam's tip of the week

Hit Irons with Your Left Knee

When I'm hitting the driver, reaching a solid top position is my only goal. If I'm good at the top, all I have to do is unwind and the ball will go far. When the ball's on the ground instead of being teed up, however, there's an extra step.

The Key: To hit solid irons, move down and forward from the top as you unwind, so that the bottom of your swing occurs slightly in front of the ball. It's easy to do if you start your downswing by driving your left knee toward the target, then straighten it as you approach impact. This gets your energy and swing power moving in the direction of the hit, so you leave nothing behind.
