As the season is almost here I think now is the perfect time to check your golf gear or even time to upgrade your equipment. I would suggest going through the whole bag.
Grips - Make sure they are not shiny or worn.
Lies - This will dramatically change your ball flight so worth a check.
Loft - This is equally important as I found out once where my 8 iron was the loft of a pitching wedge and you will lose valuable yardage.
Grooves - In your wedges always worth a check its weight in gold if they are worn then you will lose loads of spin and distance control so your scores will suffer.
Shoes - Check your spikes for wear, check inside the shoe for any wear or damage around the heel as wear in this area will cause some rubbing and lead to blisters.
If you find yourself struggling for time you can always pop your stuff in and we will give your equipment an MOT.
Sam's tip of the week
Practicing Smart
Now I see probably 95% of golfers on the range just hitting one ball after another and in all honesty just going through the motions and not practicing smart just beating balls.
I saw this article the other day about Nick Faldo and how when he was practicing and warming up for a Major Championship and thought wow what a great idea. So having read its defiantly worth trying Also I would like some feedback on how you get on so please let me know. Nick Faldo would often go even a step further, replicating entire rounds on the practice tee, never hitting the same club twice in succession.
According to David Leadbetter in the December 2010 Faldo played a game with himself on the range at the 1996 Masters. "He was working on every shot he'd face on the course, complete with his caddie, Fanny Sunesson, saying things like 'The flag is 10 paces right, five from the back.' This routine made Nick work the ball instead of hitting it dead straight. It made the course more familiar when he got there."
