Tip of the week

Smoke your drives further!
By Matthew Turnock, Mottrram Hall.

Often when I ask what my students what they want from their tee shot lessons the most common response I get is more “distance”. Distance is achieved via a “Combination” of factors but predominantly the following are the main areas to focus on:

- Club head speed – on average every 1 mph of extra speed equates to 2 to 3 extra yards so someone who hits their driver around 230 yards with a swing speed of 90 mph can expect around 10 to 15 yards extra with an increase of 5 mph .
- Angle of attack – Positive (hitting on the up) as opposed to negative (hitting down)
- Launch angle – Optimisation
- Quality of strike – Centeredness of hit
- Spin rate – Low (aerodynamic resistance lessened) anywhere between 2000 & 2500 rpm.

Sit up and listen

Over the next few weeks we encourage you to read our articles on why it's so important to re-grip your clubs, the warning signs to look out for and how we can help find grips that are right for you.

There are so many options out there, and given the chance to try a new grip you'll be amazed by the difference you feel straight away. We'll even have an exclusive interview for you in a couple of weeks with world-renowned golf coach David Leadbetter - now that's something you don't want to miss.

So next time you're at the club, take a look at a few of your grips and consider if yours need changing. Alternatively, pop in-store and we'll cast an eye over them for you. Enjoy the articles.
