Wow, what a week we’ve had!
The faux Solheim Cup, known to us at Dunston Hall as the Hardbattle Cup, was won by the USA this year, with Sue Hill captaining the effort for the “Yanks.” She threatened to wear a Donald Trump wig, but she was afraid her team would boycott, so she opted for the Paula Creamer pink instead. Thank goodness!
Elaine was a worthy European captain for the hotly contested matches, but in the end, the last two matches (both decided on the 18th hole) turned the tide for the Americans.
Jean Fraser won the “Best Dressed American” but it was a hard decision. So many came prepared to show their colours, including Wyn, who has now earned the nickname of “Sheriff Woody,” since her outfit reminded us of the character from “Toy Story”.
Annie Baker won “Best Dressed European” in her shirt starring assorted Brexit faces. It was so much fun to see all the costuming, and even visiting golfers commented on our party atmosphere and laughter on the course and in the clubhouse over lunch. If you missed it, make sure you’re on the list for next year because this kind of fun comes around only rarely!
Congratulations to Carolyn and Elaine, who won the Lyn Dempsey Trophy in the new format that started with round robin competitions and then narrowed down to a knockout in three different categories. The trophy will be presented this Thursday, April 6, after the Stableford.
Knockouts
With that winter knockout over, now is the time to sign up for the Summer Knockout. The sheet is posted in the locker room. The course is looking great right now, and it will only get better, so get your name on the list right away.
Goodbye Craig
We all said goodbye to Craig (our head Greenskeeper), as he is moving to greener pastures on the Framlingham Estate. We wished him well but said we would take him back if he wants to return.
Easter Fun
Teams are being drawn this week for the Easter Fun Competition on 13th April. If you have signed up, please arrive by 8:40 to find out who your partners are. In addition, Barry Allard, CEO of our charity The Feed, will give a brief presentation after the competition and before our meal on that day, so even if you’re not staying to eat (but we hope you do—the food was great last week), you will still be able to hear more about the charity.
Don’t miss it!
A Thank You From Lynda
Thank you from Lynda Thank you so much for the lovely flowers and cake on my birthday last week. It will certainly be a day to remember. Thanks also to Sue and Elaine for organising such a brilliant competition, and to all the ladies who certainly got into the spirit of it. It reiterates what Dunston ladies’ section is all about.
Who would want to play elsewhere?
