Here’s the latest news from the Captain Well…what a great ‘flyer of the Dunston flag’… Ashley Horne took part in the Halesworth Invitation Day and won with an impressive 43 points. She has also won our Summer Knock… so on great form! Well done Ash.
26 Ladies took part in the Greensomes Rose Bowl on 24th August with Carolyn Ballingall and Jane Wheeler claiming the trophy with 43 points, well ahead of any one else. Sue Henderson was at the winner of the August Medal with a nett 70 and got a handicap cut from 6 to 5. We have our invitation Day on Thursday 28th September. There is still time to sign up for those who haven't already and treat a guest Just a reminder that we need to put on our usual fantastic halfway house on the day. Any goodies savoury or sweet greatly appreciated.
Jane Watson and Mike Hudson had a great day on Sunday hosting the Mixed Friendly from Caldecott Hall. All teams had fun, the food was delicious and tasty and the result was 2.5 to 2.5 which was a fabulous and fair result. That's how friendlies should be! The Seniors Charity Day in aid of Prostate Cancer is being held on Tuesday 19th September. There are prizes for ‘best lady’ etc, a meal, raffle and auction. I have sent details in a previous email.
A new Head Greenkeeper starts on 2nd October… rumoured to be from Norwich … so a ‘localite’. At the Club Committee meeting where all section heads attend I fed back our views re. the Captains Ball / Summer event. The decision was taken to proceed with the Ball in Feb 2018 and then move to a Summer event. We are forming a joint working party to sort! The sign up sheet for the Lynn Dempsey Memorial Trophy/Winter Knock Out is in the changing room and the Sue Lockhart Memorial Trophy will be up shortly. Historically, players have run out of time to play their matches by the deadline leading the committee to review the process . Players must now adopt the following for any knockout / seasonal competitions.
To avoid difficulties in finding mutually convenient dates, and giving enough time to book tee-times for KO matches within the given deadlines, it was agreed by the committee to have the following ruling: The top named player is required to contact their opponent within the first week from the previous deadline (or beginning of the competition) to arrange a mutually convenient date to play their match before the deadline. If a player knows they will be uncontactable during that week they must inform both of the players in the previous round so that they are aware and dates can be confirmed as soon as possible. If a player knows they will be away for a long period of the competition it is best not to enter. Finally… please take time to read the minutes of the committee meetings; a huge amount of work goes in to running our section… we won’t always get it right and please everyone, but we really do try.
