Seniors' Blog Yesterday saw us playing in what was to us, drought conditions. We could easily have been in Spain or Australia. There was lots of wildlife evident out on the course with three stoats putting a premature end to a young rabbit on the 15th fairway. Whenever any of us got close, the stoats ran into the reeds close to the pond. We now know, it is not just our golf balls that reside in that area of the course. There were also Egyptian geese, oyster catchers and signets. To cap it all, our very own Fred Handley was let out of his cage and duly won Alf’s charity draw, taking home £23. Well done Fred! So what of the golf? Off the yellow tees a fine nett 67 from Barry Durrant took the gold medal and a bottle of wine. Second and third were Colin Skeels and Dave Young with nett 69s. Great scoring gents. A mention for Alan Rix who got the lowest gross score despite carding a 9 on the 1st! The competition off the whites had fewer entrants, but top of the tree was Mike Lawrence with a nett score of 74 . Second was Gary Beck and third Kevin Kelf. Congratulations all three of you. Bottles of wine available next week. I hope all of those at Belton Woods are rubbing in the factor 30 and drinking water as well as wine and beer. Not sure the winner of the green jacket is going to want to keep it on in this heat for very long. Good luck tomorrow. Gary is doing a grand job with the World Cup Predictor. Germany’s exit will I am sure have a big effect on the end result. However, I am sure there will be a number of senior members who will not be shedding too many tears! Don’t forget to get your names up on the sheet for the friendly matches against other clubs and I hope you have all read the update I sent out following the Captain’s Meeting. It was on this day in history that the one and only Mohammed Ali announced for the third time that he was retiring. Most of us have made the same decision in the past and can now walk around the Dunston acres in glorious sunshine without worrying what is going on back at work. Will the phrase “glorious sunshine” come back and bite me ?
