Seniors Captain Leigh's Update It was good to see a good number of senior golfers out on the course Tuesday. The hot conditions continued and I even managed to be responsible for the thunder and lightning the previous week despite being out of the country. The Bogey Competition is an interesting format and emphasises the variety of competitions we have on a Tuesday. Plaudits go to our clear winner David Foskett with a very good score of 7 up followed closely on 6 and 5 by Gary Beck and Steve Tudor. A good spread of handicaps amongst the winners and how Gary must have wondered where his ball ended up on the 17th despite the best endeavours of Messrs Franklin and Percival. Wine available next Tuesday. Well done to Barry Holden who pocketed £23 from Alf’s draw and Andrew Hale £13 from our Almoners Day. Today we played a home match against Sprowston following a narrow defeat in the away fixture earlier in the year. This time we had an emphatic 6-0 victory with some crushing wins by many of our groupings. Many thanks to all those players and a reminder to others how enjoyable these occasions are. Get your names down on the list. In particular, congratulations and thanks to both Dave Young and Colin Sherwood who answered my calls late in the day. I reminded both teams that whilst we older players were out hitting a small ball around a golf course, Roger Federer reached the ripe old age of 36 today. Will he still be playing tennis when he gets to our ages? This day also saw the demise of President Nixon in 1974. Something else we all remember. Another plea for raffle and auction prizes for our Charity Day next month. Please donate what you can. Keep rubbing in that sun cream. |
