Seniors blog On this day back in 1997, two high quality golfers were admitted into the Hall of Fame . Nick Faldo and Seve Ballesteros. Today two Dunston Seniors won their respective Monthly Stablefords off white and yellow tees. Mike Lawrence and Rod Clayton with 34 and 42 points respectively. I doubt that neither pair expected to be mentioned in the same golfing account some 21 years apart! Both of our winners won on countback from yours truly and David Weeks. Well played. Wine from Ken’s locker will be ready for you. I have to give a mention to Keith Barley and Rod Barker who both made it onto the podium. A true test today as the wind picked up and good practice for those playing again tomorrow against Rookery Park At the Captain’s Meeting I attended today, we heard that we now have a new Head Greenkeeper, David Fraser who comes from Wisely Golf Club in Surrey. I am sure we all wish him all the very best in his new role. I also learnt that work to some of the trees (many of which frequently get in my way and I am sure lots of you as well), starts at the end of September, with the rest of the work being carried out in December. We will also be seeing a new machine in the driving range which will be a great improvement to what we have experienced here in the past. Next week we have our Charity Day. If you haven’t signed up already, please do so. It will be a great day. All the holes are now sponsored and as you would expect, Alf is still after more raffle prizes! There are some great items being auctioned, including a microlight flight with Bryan Smy. Talk to your mates and see what 4 ball vouchers would suit you. There are tickets for the Theatre Royal and some restaurant vouchers. Don’t forget that we will have the best half way house in the world! Today’s draw was won by yet another Barry. This time the £27 goes to Barry Larke. No changing your Christian names please. A big thank you from me to all those people who help to keep the Senior section going. We are now over 100 strong and our Tuesday games are the envy of every club we play against. Stand up Keith Cockram. All the best.
