Nick's top tip of the week
Get ready for the up and coming season
Now is the perfect time to check your golfing equipment or even time to go one better and upgrade your equipment. I would suggest going through your whole bag and check the following:
1) Grips - make sure they are not shiny or worn.
2) Lies - Check your lies, they candramatically change your ball flight so worth a checking.
3) Loft - this is equally important as I found out once that my 8 iron had the same loft as my pitching wedge. Therefore you can lose valuable yardage but also you will be carrying two clubs that offer the same distance in effect.
4) Grooves in your wedges - always worth a check, it's a second job and worth its wait in gold if they are worn then you will lose loads of spin and distance control which will have a significant impact on yoru scoring.
5) Shoes - check your spikes are in good condition. Also check inside the shoe for any wear or damage around the heel as wear in this area will cause some rubbing and lead to blisters.
Leave no stone unturned to be prepared for the season ahead.
If you have any questions or would like us to go through your loft and lies please come in store or click here to get in touch.

Having the correct pair of golf shoes is so important. You wear your golf shoes for 4 hours every time you so comfort and performance is a must. I would recommend coming in store and trying a few pairs to see what best suites your feet.

Sam's top tip of the week
How to tame your 3-wood
Move the ball back, and take a little divot
- Too far forward this is the most common fault I see in my lessons. With the ball up this far, you'll catch it thin or top it.
- I see golfers in my lessons play these perfect 5- and 7-wood shots, but give them a 3-wood and they can't hit it.
- First, they play the ball up in their stance, like a driver, and try to help it in the air. As a result, they top it or skim it along the ground.
- Second, they swing too hard. The green is usually out of reach, so they think, The longer I hit this, the better. But those hard swings rarely end well.
- longer I hit this, the better. But those hard swings rarely end well. For better 3-woods, position the ball a few inches inside your front heel. And then don't be afraid to hit down on it. Ben Hogan used to take a little divot with every fairway wood he hit, and so does Tiger.
- When it comes to tempo, think of your 3-wood as any other club: It has a distance maximum, whether yours is 250 yards or 150. Use the same tempo you would for an iron shot don't try to squeeze out that extra 10 yards.
- Make sure your 3-wood has enough loft, 15 or 16 degrees. When you hit range balls with your 3-wood, tee it up sometimes. You need to get used to the idea that you can hit down on the ball and get plenty of height on the shot. You need to learn to trust the club's loft.
Are you happy with your 3 wood?
